Who Do Not Need a Visa for Vietnam?
Citizens of certain countries may visit Vietnam without a visa for a certain period of time. The following is the list of countries and regions that have visa exemption agreements with Vietnam, unilaterally or bilaterally.

To get Vietnam visa exemption, the eligible travelers are required to ensure:
their passport valid for at least 6 months following their date of arrival in Vietnam; and
their passport has at least 02 blank pages.
Notes:
The 30-day visa exemption is granted to those entering the coastal economic zones decided by the Government when those zones meet the following conditions:
having an international airport,
having their own space;
having defined geographical boundaries and be separate from the mainland;
being in line with socio-economic development policies while posing no threat to national defense, security, social order and safety of Vietnam.
So, Phu Quoc island is one of those zones.
APEC Business Travel Card (ABTC) holders with valid passports are exempted from Vietnam visa requirements for a stay of no longer than 60 days.
British National Overseas (BNO) passport holders are not eligible for the 15-day Vietnam visa exemption. So, they need to apply for a visa to visit Vietnam.
Overseas Vietnamese, their spouses and children or Vietnamese citizens are eligible forVietnam 5 year visa exemption.
Types of Vietnam Tourist Visa
At the moment, you may apply for either of the following types of tourist visa for Vietnam:
1 month single entry (valid for 01 month with 01 entry only);
1 month multiple entry (valid for 01 month with several entry during that 01 month);
3 months single entry (valid for 03 months with 30-day stay with 01 entry only, );
3 months multiple entry (valid for 03 months with several entres during those 03 months, 30 days at maximum each stay);
Note:US travelers have one (01) more option for a tourist visa to Vietnam: 1 year multiple entry visa for Vietnam.
How to Apply For a Vietnam Tourist Visa?
There are 02 options to get a Vietnam tourist visa online, namely:
Apply for a Vietnam visa on arrival
Submit a visa application form online Get visa approval letter via email within 02 working days or even 2-4 working hours in emergency cases Get visa stamped upon arrival at Vietnam airport
Apply for a visa at Vietnam embassy abroad
Contact the embassy you are applying for the visa with for guidance to prepare the visa application documents, procedure and fees Prepare the document as guided Visit the embassy to submit the visa documents and pay the visa fees Visit the embassy again to receive the visa and original passport
Documents required for getting a Vietnam visa include:
1. Passport:valid for at least 6 months following your arrival date to Vietnam and have at least 2 blank pages for immigration stamps. A temporary passport maybe not accepted.
2. Visa Approval Letter:required if you want to get Vietnam visa on arrival at Vietnam international airports.
3. Photo:two (2) passport-sized photos (4×6 cm) and must be taken recently without glass-wear. Check detailedVietnam visa photo requirements.
5. Vietnam Visa Stamping Fee:paid in cash upon arrival (for Vietnam visa on arrival)
Notes:
Travelers who transit through Vietnam airport should check the airlines for Vietnam visa requirements;
Travelers directly visiting Phu Quoc Island, either by boat or airplane from a country other than Vietnam, and stay for less than 30 days are not required to have Vietnam visa.
In case you are granted visa-free access to Vietnam, you just need a passport with at least 6 months of validity following your date of entry into Vietnam.
The visa approval letter is valid at the airport only. So if travelers enter Vietnam by land or cruise, they can apply for a Vietnam visa via the local embassy.
